Fix You

Some sources suggest that "Fix You" was written by Chis Martin as a song to help comfort Gwyneth Paltrow in her grief, after the death of her father Bruce Paltrow. The composition undoubtly owes some debt to her father - Martin found inspiration for this song whilst playing an electric keyboard that had been left behind by him. Martin states of the song that it is "probably the most important song we've ever written". (Newsweek, quoted in wikipedia article on 'Fix You'")

The song is taken from Coldplay's third studio album "X&Y", released in 2005 by Parlophone. Although the album received mixed reviews, "Fix You" was highly rated by the critics, garnering positive remarks from the NME, Rolling Stone and Pop Matters. The song became a firm favourite with the fans and wider public alike, being listed as number two in "Q" magazines "100 Greatest Tracks of the Year" of 2005. "Fix You's" highest chart position was number four in the UK charts.

If you are learning this song on the keyboard, it may be worth experimenting with a "church" or "pipe" organ setting, and playing with held chords through the intro and verse one and two. You could then switch to piano , with steady repeated chords for the chorus section (compare with fix you on youtube) There's also a short instrumental section after the chorus - you may want to work out the piano lead here and play this in the right hand, playing the chords in the left (it begins G going up to Eb then G going to D). "Fix You" is a more difficult song to cover on the guitar due the key of E flat. I would recommend placing your capo on capo one and playing in D major, so that the first chords become D - D/C# - Bm - A/C#.
