I'll Be There For You

About the "Friends" Theme Song and the Rembrandts

The theme song to the american tv sitcom blockbuster "Friends" is often (incorrectly) thought to be written by the US band The Rembrandts. Although they recorded the 1990's US and UK hit, the song was originally composer by Michael Skloff and Allee Willis.

How to play the Friends Theme Song on the guitar or piano

A relatively easy song for the guitar. The chords to watch out for (and may require some extra practise for the beginner) are C#m, Bm and Esus4. Please see our explanation behind the sus4 chord if you are unsure on the theory about this chord.

Playing the theme for Friends on the piano is not straightforward, as the right hand will need to watch out for the various black keys involved. Notice the C#m chord - in order to play this well you will need to move the hand further into the keyboard so that fingers 1 and 5 can strike C# and G# respectively. You could also consider playing this chord in the second inversion (G#-C#-E) so that after playing the A chord (A-C#-E) you will only need to move the thumb (from the A to the G#).
